Harris County Public Safety Technology Services (PSTS) supports the infrastructure and applications used by Harris County's law enforcement and emergency response departments.
Public Safety Application Services
The Public Safety Application Services team delivers software solutions to the Public Safety community within and around Harris County. The current focus is providing Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and reporting capabilities to the Law Enforcement community. Strategic plans will increase service offerings to include Crime Analytics, region-wide data sharing, as well as leveraging more mobile technologies.
Public Safety Broadband Services
The Public Safety Broadband Services team provides a dedicated LTE network to meet the data connectivity needs of First Responders. With a dedicated network, first responders aren't searching for valuable bandwidth during a disaster or emergency. The County system consists of 18 LTE sites in the Harris County coverage area; the goal is to bring the number of sites up to 37. This will allow Public safety users to:
- Have dedicated broadband access for daily use and special events, disasters, and emergencies
- Have a network designed to be available when most needed, with redundant connectivity, battery backup, and generator power
- Improve efficiencies through the use of applications and systems designed for Public Safety, using broadband cellular data
Public Safety Radio Services
The Texas Wide Area Radio Network (TxWARN) is owned and managed by the Public Safety Radio Services team. The TxWARN system encompasses approximately 70,000 subscriber radios spread across 1,118 agencies. Services provided include radio infrastructure support, radio subscriber maintenance, radio installation, and radio programming and training. In addition, the team also provides communication assistance and consultation to agencies and actively participates in emergency management planning, training, and response.
Security Technology Services
The Security Technology Services team provides innovative and cost-effective technology solutions for the security and incident awareness needs of Harris County's departments, as well as the law enforcement community. This team is responsible for providing a collaborative platform to share critical surveillance and security information during normal operations, as well as special events. This will allow first responders in the region to more effectively manage resources and situational intelligence during man-made or natural calamities.
